ABSTRACT<\/h3>\n

In its first part, the workshop gives a hands-on introduction to digital forensic analysis\u00a0of hard drives for born digital traces of the writing process with different constructed\u00a0case scenarios. The hands-on experience serves as a foundation for a moderated group\u00a0discussion about how the specific materiality of the digital historical record can be read\u00a0in philological terms of the critique g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, how this changes our ideas about text\u00a0production and consequently the requirements and understanding of representation of\u00a0the genetic digital born record in a documentary \/ genetic DSE.<\/p>\n

The hands-on workshop will introduce participating archivists, philologists and researchers from the humanities into forensic imaging of hard drives, inspection and analysis\u00a0of forensic images. Two phases of analysis of the process will be covered during the\u00a0workshop: a) forensic imaging, triage and preservation of hard drives in the archive and\u00a0b) philological recovery of textual versions of a writing process from a digital forensic\u00a0image (mounting, inspection of temporary files, undelete, file carving, drive slack\u00a0analysis, timeline analysis, grep) and by low-level inspection of files (fast save artifacts,\u00a0RSID-tags). Depending on participants\u2019 interest other scenarios, e.g. cloud services, can\u00a0also be addressed. To avoid legal issues, participants will work with forensic images\u00a0created for this workshop\u2019s training purposes with Christian Moch\u2019s Forensig<\/em>\u00a0forensic\u00a0image generator (Moch 2009, Moch Freiling 2009).<\/p>\n

The workshop aims at an audience with average user skills, e.g. archivists with no or little prior knowledge of forensic computing.<\/p>\n
