Project Description<\/h2>\n

This website contains the official and most up-to-date version of the Encoding Manual used by the Beckett Digital Manuscript Project<\/a>\u00a0(BDMP) for encoding Samuel Beckett’s manuscripts in TEI-compliant<\/a> XML. The BDMP offers a genetic edition of Samuel Beckett’s works, and falls under the auspices of the Centre for Manuscript Genetics<\/a> at the University of Antwerp<\/a>, the Beckett International Foundation<\/a> at the University of Reading<\/a>, the Harry Ransom Research Center<\/a>\u00a0at the University of\u00a0Texas at\u00a0Austin<\/a>, and the Estate of Samuel Beckett.<\/p>\n

The primary purpose of this website is to serve as an encoding\u00a0resource for our collaborators. In our General Remarks<\/a> section, they\u00a0can refresh their memories concerning the basics of TEI-XML encoding in general, and of our project-specific encoding guidelines in particular. And in our section on The Tags<\/a>, they will find all the information they need on the tags we use to encode both\u00a0The Header<\/a> and The Text<\/a>. But because we think this information may also\u00a0be useful for other researchers working on similar materials, we wanted to open up the Encoding Manual to the general public too. As a result, we invite\u00a0anyone\u00a0who is\u00a0interested in scholarly editing, TEI-XML, and\/or genetic criticism to take a look\u00a0under the hood of the BDMP, and see how we encode our transcriptions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
