Python
The focus is on text analysis using the popuÂlar scripÂting language Python, which is rapidly becoming the standard programÂming language for computaÂtional text anaÂlysis in digiÂtal HumaniÂties.
Covered topics include: basic text procesÂsing tasks; using text-mining toolÂkits such as Pattern and NLTK; applications of text procesÂsing (e.g., sentiment mining, topic classiÂfication, autoÂmatic clustering); XML parsing (e.g., TEI-XML) in Python.
For the workÂshop, the instrucÂtors will make use of a so-called Python noteÂbook – a successÂful and engaÂging teaching forÂmat. Python notebooks are a course book and coding ‘sandbox’ at once. Experience with previous EADH and DARIAH-DE Summer Schools in Nijmegen and Göttingen has shown that this format is extremely engaging for researÂchers who have had no signiÂficant expoÂsure to digiÂtal methods yet.
